Add a comment prompt to an Instagram post

Prompt your users to answer a particular question in the comments with this new feature.

A comment prompt turns your caption into a question or request that followers answer in the comments. You add it from Create post on an Instagram feed photo, carousel or reel.

Add a comment prompt in Create post

  1. Open Create post and select an Instagram account that publishes through the Instagram API.
  2. Add your media and write your caption. The caption is the prompt, so write what you want followers to answer.
  3. Scroll to Caption add-on and choose Comment prompt.
  4. Schedule or publish the post as usual.

Requirements

Comment prompts need an Instagram account connected for Instagram API publishing. Accounts that are not updated to publish through the API do not show the Caption add-on section.

To reconnect an account for Instagram API publishing:

  1. Go to Settings, then Accounts.
  2. Click Add account and select Instagram.
  3. Sign in with the Facebook account that manages your Instagram Business account and approve the permissions.
  4. Select the Instagram account and its Facebook Page, then confirm.
  5. Return to Create post. The Caption add-on section now appears for that account.

Limits

  • Comment prompts work on Instagram feed photos, carousels and reels. They do not work on stories.
  • One add-on per post. A post has a comment prompt or a poll, not both.
  • You cannot add a comment prompt after the post has published.

If the prompt cannot be attached

If Instagram does not accept the prompt at publish time, Sked Social still publishes the post without it.

The post card on the archive pagetells you the prompt was not attached. You cannot add the prompt to the published post afterwards.
