Add a poll to an Instagram post

Add polls to your Instagram posts to get a multi-choice response from your audience

You can attach a poll to an Instagram feed photo, carousel or reel from Create post. Your caption is the question. Followers pick from the options you give them.

Add a poll in Create post

  1. Open Create post and select an Instagram account that publishes through the Instagram API.
  2. Add your media and write your caption. The caption is the poll question, so write it as one.
  3. Scroll to Caption add-on and choose Poll.
  4. Enter 2 to 4 options. Each option can be 1 to 25 characters.
  5. Turn on Keep the poll open after 3 days if you want the poll to stay open longer.
  6. Schedule or publish the post as usual.

Requirements

Polls need an Instagram account connected for Instagram API publishing. Accounts that are not updated for API publishing do not show the Caption add-on section.

To reconnect an account for Instagram API publishing:

  1. Go to Settings, then Accounts.
  2. Click Add account and select Instagram.
  3. Sign in with the Facebook account that manages your Instagram Business account and approve the permissions.
  4. Select the Instagram account and its Facebook Page, then confirm.
  5. Return to Create post. The Caption add-on section now appears for that account.

Limits

  • Currently polls are only visible on the Instagram mobile app. If you check the post on the Instagram website view, you will not see the poll.
  • Polls work on Instagram feed photos, carousels and reels. They do not work on stories.
  • You can add 2 to 4 options, with 1 to 25 characters per option.
  • One add-on per post. A post has a poll or a comment prompt, not both.
  • You cannot add a poll after the post has published.

If the poll cannot be attached

If Instagram does not accept the poll at publish time, Sked Social still publishes the post without it.

The post card on your archive page tells you the poll was not attached. You cannot add the poll to the published post afterwards.
