Scheduling LinkedIn Video posts with custom Video Thumbnails
When you schedule or publish a video post to LinkedIn using Sked, you can choose which image appears as the thumbnail in the LinkedIn feed. You can select a specific frame from your video, or upload a custom cover image — giving you full control over how your content looks before anyone clicks play.
This feature is available to all Sked plan tiers and works the same way as cover selection for TikTok and Instagram.
Overview
When you schedule or publish a video post to LinkedIn using Sked, you can choose which image appears as the thumbnail in the LinkedIn feed. You can select a specific frame from your video, or upload a custom cover image — giving you full control over how your content looks before anyone clicks play.
This feature is available to all Sked plan tiers and works the same way as cover selection for TikTok and Instagram.
Prerequisites
Before you can use LinkedIn thumbnail selection:
- You must have at least one LinkedIn account connected to your Sked workspace
- Your post must include a video file (not an image or text-only post)
- LinkedIn thumbnail selection is available in the post creation and scheduling flow only — you cannot update the thumbnail on a post that has already been published
How to select a video thumbnail for a LinkedIn post
Step 1: Open Sked and start creating a new post.
Step 2: Add a video to your post.
Step 3: Select LinkedIn as one of your target platforms.
Step 4: In the post form, navigate to the LinkedIn platform tab.
Step 5: You'll see two options:
- Select cover — opens a frame selector where you can scrub through your video and choose the exact frame you want as the thumbnail
- Upload cover — lets you upload a custom image file to use as the thumbnail
Step 6: Choose your preferred option:
- For Select cover: use the scrubber to find the right frame, then click Done.
- For Upload cover: click to browse and select your image file, then confirm.
Step 7: Continue with your post as normal. Your selected thumbnail will be applied when the post is published to LinkedIn.
Posting to multiple platforms at once
If you're creating a post for LinkedIn and other platforms (e.g. TikTok or Instagram) at the same time:
- In the global/default form, only Select cover (frame selection) is shown
- Upload cover (custom image) is available in the LinkedIn platform tab
- Thumbnail selections are independent per platform — your LinkedIn cover will not affect your TikTok or Instagram cover, and vice versa
Reverting to the original thumbnail
If you've selected a cover and want to go back to the default, click Revert to original in the cover selector. This removes any selected thumbnail and lets LinkedIn auto-select a frame on publish.
Troubleshooting
I can't see the Select cover or Upload cover options
- Make sure LinkedIn is selected as a target platform for your post
- Check that your post includes a video file — cover selection is not available for image or text-only posts
- If the controls are still missing, try refreshing the page and creating a new post
My thumbnail isn't showing on LinkedIn after publishing
- LinkedIn may take a few minutes to process the video and apply the thumbnail. Check back after 5–10 minutes.
- If the issue persists, contact Sked support with your post details
I accidentally selected the wrong frame / cover
- You can update your cover at any time before publishing — click the current thumbnail to reopen the selector
- Once a post has been published to LinkedIn, the thumbnail cannot be changed through Sked
The Upload cover option isn't available
- Upload cover is available in the LinkedIn platform tab (not the global form). Switch to the LinkedIn tab to access it.
