Video, Supercharged—Faster Uploads and Instant Playback on Sked 🚀

We’ve given video handling in Sked a serious speed boost. From the moment you upload to when you hit play (and everywhere in between), everything is faster, smoother, and easier.

Here’s what’s new (and what it actually means):

• Ultrafast Mode for Transcoding:
  Your video is now split into small chunks and processed in parallel, giving you up to 5x faster speeds for big files—especially if your video is longer than 10 minutes, you’re exporting in 1080p/4K, or working with HEVC files. (Heads up: Ultrafast works for videos longer than 1 minute.)
  
  
• Lightning-Fast Video Playback:
  Videos stream into your browser at warp speed—whether you’re editing, scheduling, or sharing review links for approval.
  
  
• Faster, Smoother Frame Selection:
  Thumbnails and frame selectors load quicker, making it easier to pick the perfect shot and using less browser memory along the way.
  
  

How does it work?

When uploading longer videos or HEVC media to Sked, we'll use the new UltraFast option to transcode your video. We'll split the file into smaller pieces that are all processed at the same time before being joined back together, greatly reducing the time spent waiting for the file to be ready. We transcode your media to create a thumbnails, the mouse over playback gifs for the library.

We also create a smaller version that is used in the thumbnail selection tool when creating a post, so you are loading a much smaller version in the scrobble, but the frame from the full resolution version is used on publishing. 

This is ideal for longer videos, where you aren't waiting for the full resolution video to load.

We also made changes to the CDN that is used to deliver media from our servers into your browser when opening files, loading them into create post, viewing library collections or calendar too, and there's no longer a brief pause while your content is fetched. It's not positively snappy everywhere on Sked, and includes images too.
