Posting Instagram Stories: how to do it & image specifications
Learn how to schedule and post Instagram stories with Sked.
With Sked Social, you can schedule and automatically publish Instagram Stories — images and videos that appear in your Stories (not your profile feed) and disappear after 24 hours.
How it works
There are three ways to schedule Instagram Stories in Sked Social:
- Use the Create Post tool to upload your Story and select a date and time to publish.
- Drag and drop any saved draft onto the calendar — Sked Social will publish it at the scheduled time.
- Add your Story to the Queue to publish it at your next available queue slot.
When creating a post, select the Instagram account(s) you want to post to, add your media, then toggle Switch to Instagram Story or notification post to reveal Story-specific options. Note: This toggle is only visible when an Instagram account is selected.

The preview panel on the right will update to show a Story-specific mockup, so you can see exactly how your Story will look before it publishes.
If your media is not already the correct size, crop it to the right ratio before uploading. Use the built-in crop tool to resize — cropping first preserves the best possible image quality.
In the editor, you can set the Instagram Stories aspect ratio using the ratio selector:
Support for links, polls, music and other interactive overlays
Sked Social supports link stickers to add a clickable URL to your Stories. For full setup instructions, see the article on scheduling stories with link stickers.
Sked Social does not currently support other interactive stickers such as Polls, Q&A, Music, or Countdown. If you need to use one of these, select Publish Manually — you'll receive a push notification in the Sked Social app at your scheduled time and can then download the media and post it using the native Instagram app with the stickers applied.
See our help article on manual publishing on how to take advantage of stickers in stories.
Specification for Instagram Stories
Instagram automatically crops Stories to match the aspect ratio of the viewing device — you cannot control this cropping. The recommended aspect ratio for Instagram Stories is 9:16 (1080 × 1920 px) to avoid unexpected cropping on most devices.
